Matt LeBlanc is Mi’kmaq and Acadian, his family from the Listuguj reserve in Quebec and Campbellton, New Brunswick, Canada. He is the son of Terry and Bev LeBlanc and has two sisters, Jeanine and Jennifer.
In his teen years Matt was a lifeguard and swim instructor working at Bible camps and local pools in Manitoba. Working with YFC for a summer, he also helped to lead teams of inner city youth on a weeklong canoe trip into the Whiteshell region of Ontario. He has worked with children and youth in various capacities throughout his life.
In 2000 Matt joined a YWAM base in Auckland, NZ and completed a DTS (Discipleship Training Program) with them, focused on Indigenous models of Christian living and understanding. Later in 2003 he returned to staff another DTS with Island Breeze and lead a team of over 20 young people from around the world on a short-term missions trip to Tahiti for 2 months. During his time with YWAM Matt also was involved in IWT (Impact World Tour). Here he worked as a sound and light technician, helping to set up and run the stage for the Evangelistic outreach.
During the years of 2006 and 2007 Matt started and managed a private company based out of Edmonton, AB. The business was focused on residential construction and renovation. He had one partner in the company and hired outside work from time to time.
Since the beginning of the WCGIP (World Christian Gathering on Indigenous People) Matt has attended and been involved in each of the gatherings in the various countries around the world. He has also been part of the Youth Leadership team with the Vision Keepers who oversee the movement. The experience in these gatherings has created a vision in Matt for the emerging generations of Indigenous youth around the world. In pursuit of that vision, since 2008 he has been involved in setting up a new initiative to connect and work with his tribal brothers and sisters around the world. |
