RICK & LINDA MARTIN

Rick and Linda Martin are husband and wife and work as a team on staff with My People International. They are based in Sioux Lookout in North-western Ontario. They have two teenage daughters Lynnette and Rochelle. School teaching drew Rick to the north and there he met his wife, Linda, a Cree from Muskrat Dam, Ontario.

Rick and Linda are responsible for the development and facilitation of peer counselling and training programs. They also lead workshops and small groups dealing with life’s issues in northern communities, issues such as abuse, family crisis, death and grief. They are involved, through these programs, in holistic evangelism in northern fly-in communities. They have a clear understanding of the responsibility for discipleship in such contexts.

In addition to these regular responsibilities, Rick and Linda provide support for other native counsellors. They are involved in support work for local pastors and other church leaders. In addition to these regular ministries, annually Rick and Linda coordinate and help lead children’s VBS in communities in the north with whom they have regular connections.

While the focus of their work is primarily northwest Ontario where they travel extensively, they extend themselves in workshop sessions and seminars as far away as Alaska where they have delivered training programs sponsored by our US ministry partners. They also partner with other mission organizations and have helped lead conferences from British Columbia to Quebec.

On top of all this, Rick finds time to coordinate hockey camps and clinics each year for the youth of the communities they are most involved with. As well, Rick is involved in some music ministry where he helps lead worship at conferences and local churches.

Rick and Linda each hold a M.A. in Biblical Counselling from Providence Theological Seminary and each provides one to one counselling in addition to the other programs and ministries they offer.
