Welcome to My People International
My People International serves the whole person (spiritually, emotionally, socially and physically). We are an indigenous organization working intentionally in cross-cultural partnerships with other individuals and organizations. Our objective is to tell the message of a fulfilled spiritual life through Jesus; to instruct and encourage people struggling with life’s challenges; and, to equip those already following Jesus’ teaching to be able to do so in a culturally affirming way. NEWS UPDATE!! HOPE FOR THE CHALLENGE OF SUICIDE IN NATIVE NORTH AMERICA... Why are young Lakota Killing Themselves? This was the title of a recent story in the Argus Leader in South Dakota... The article, though focused on a situation on a US reservation, was just as likely to be true regardless of which side of the 49th parallel it was. And, from our experience, regardless of whether it is the US or Canada, Native youth suicide has become a huge problem - one to which our own staff can attest. That's why, thanks to some key sponsorship, My People International is about to release a one hour training DVD dealing with suicide. Our focus in the DVD is to provide the tools needed to family, friends and community members to discern the signs of then offer initial help to those considering suicide. Though our initial target has been the equipping of reserve, reservation and urban community members to deal more effectively with the Native suicide crisis, the content of the DVD is readily applicable to any ethnic or social context. As we have come to understand, though epidemic in many Native North American contexts, suicide is the choice of some people regardless of where they are from. The DVD will provide people with tangible tools to impact the suicide issue in the Native North American community (A training workshop based on the DVD will begin to be offered in late 2009).
